A newly published 2024 study concludes that long-term supplemental dose of FA leads to prolongation of Oestrous cycle of Sprague Dawley rats.
The study showed that continuous use of folic acid @1mg per day disrupted sex hormones including Luteinising hormone (LH) and Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) which leads to higher serum oestradiol levels causing irregular and prolonged cycles which may affect fertility, hormone regulation and overall reproductive health of rats. This has implications for human reproductive health.
