MTHFR affects egg quality and ICSI success.

A brand New 2024 study shows that MTHFR C677T is linked to egg quality.

This study out of Iraq looked at the MTHFR C677T polymorphism and its affect on IVF procedures ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection).

It included 85 infertile women undergoing ICSI treatment, where they tested oocytes (egg), total embryos, mature oocytes, good quality embryos and pregnancy rate.

Results: They found that the people with the MTHFR C677T homozygous polymorphism had significantly more immature oocytes and poor quality embryos than those who didn’t have MTHFR. Those with no polymorphism had a higher positive pregnancy rate.
