MTHFR C677T Genetic Adaptability

The body has the ability to change its genetics in response to changes in the environment.

Therefore, this study was completed by Naushad et al (2014) to examine the 677TT polymorphism and its adaptive ability.

Overall, the 677T genotype was associated with 7 fold cumulative risk for Recurrent Pregnancy Loss, Neural Tube Defects + Deep Vein Thrombosis. Males were shown to exhibit higher homocysteine levels.

The authors concluded the environment had influenced the 677TT mutation in the population studied, contributing to problems with pregnancy and homocysteine levels.
