The following study shows that low folate levels were significantly lower in women diagnosed with CIN3. HPV or human papilloma virus is a precursor to high grade precancerous lesions. So too abnormal DNA methylation combined with low folate appears to be a key determinant of HPV infections that proceed to CIN3 and invasive cancer.
The association between folate deficiency and the risk of precancerous lesions of the cervix and other cancer models has been documented for more than 20 years.
